Well-planned vegan and vegetarian diets can be appropriate for all stages of a person’s life. However, special care needs to be taken for vegetarian diets during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and infancy and childhood. People who are breastfeeding and children who have a vegetarian diet need to take particular care to make sure they get all the essential nutrients they need for healthy growth and development.
